Indeks di bursa Wall Street ditutup melemah akibat kekhawatiran akan prospek pemulihan ekonomi global seiring dengan banyak negara yang mengalami kenaikan jumlah kasus varian baru virus Covid-19. Penyelenggara Olimpiade akan melarang semua penonton Olimpiade, setelah Jepang mengumumkan keadaan darurat virus korona untuk Tokyo yang berlaku mulai 12 Juli hingga 22 Agustus 2021. Tokyo akan menjadi tuan rumah Olimpiade yang dijadwalkan akan dimulai pada 23 Juli hingga 8 Agustus 2021. Sementara itu data initial claims AS pekan lalu secara tak terduga mengalami kenaikan sebesar 373 ribu, dari estimasi yang sebesar 350 ribu. Hal ini mengindikasikan potensi mulai melambatnya pemulihan pasar ketenagakerjaan AS. Saham-saham yang diuntungkan dari pemulihan ekonomi mengalami pelemahan. Investor banyak yang beralih ke obligasi pemerintah, sehingga mendorong yield obligasi pemerintah AS dengan tenor 10 tahun berlanjut turun ke level 1,25%.
IHSG pada perdagangan Kamis 8 Juli 2021 ditutup melemah 0,07% pada level 6039, setelah sebelumnya sempat menguat hingga level 6080. Saham sektor consumer noncyclical mengalami koreksi terbesar. Investor asing net buy Rp132,25 miliar. Pada perdagangan hari ini IHSG diperkirakan bergerak pada kisaran support 6015/5985 dan resistance 6090/6114.
